charlie & linus

Charlie Brown: I guess you were right, Linus. I shouldn't have picked this little tree. Everything I do turns into a disaster. I guess I really don't know what Christmas is all about.
[shouting in desperation
Charlie Brown: Isn't there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?
Linus Van Pelt: Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about.
[moves toward the center of the stage
Linus Van Pelt: Lights, please.
[a spotlight shines on Linus]
Linus Van Pelt: "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, 'Fear not: for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.'"
[Linus picks up his blanket and walks back towards Charlie Brown]
Linus Van Pelt: That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.

thefuntheory.com

Have you seen this site?  It was introduced to me via IIDA's facebook page.

"This site is dedicated to the thought that something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change people’s behaviour for the better. Be it for yourself, for the environment, or for something entirely different, the only thing that matters is that it’s change for the better."

bright ideas

With the holidays right around the corner, I've been looking for some innovative gifts and if I can make them, even better.  ReadyMade has some great ideas, but I was distracted by the lighting projects.  Here are a couple I enjoyed:

lightbulb bud vase

knitted lamp

art basel miami ---- december 2-5, 2010

Several years ago I went to Miami for a friend's wedding.   After I booked my flight I decided to see what else was going on that weekend.  As the Google links popped up, the word “art” was repeated over and over.  Art Basel was the answer and it was all anyone was discussing.

Art Basel has been Switzerland's most prestigious art show for 41 years and the colorful city of Miami is the new, hot host.  (Already been to Miami?  Don’t worry; the show in Switzerland isn’t going anywhere.)

The Art Basel galleries are among the world's most prestigious art dealers, but what’s even more exciting is the list of artists.  Of course you’ll see some well-known artists, but there’s a lot of newcomers too.   The exhibits are fascinating and have a lot of range…performance art, video projects, and public art.    Here’s a taste of this year’s artists:

Described as the “largest curated street mural project in the world”, CPOP Gallery’s Contra initiative and partnerships with Fountainhead Residency, Metro 1 Properties, Montana Spraypaint Spain for live painting day and night.

hello desirable office space

Australian architectural firm hassell has won the "best interiors and fit out award" at this year's World Architectural Festival.  The winning project, ANZ centre, is located in Melbourne, Australia.  The open office space is said to be an "urban campus"  for 6,500 people.  Wow...that's half the size of my home town.
